Nestled between Satellite Channel at the North and Saanich Inlet at the East, Cowichan Bay is a true west coast settlers home overlooked by many tourists enroute. Cowichan Bay Road is the oldest highway going up Vancouver Island and has been a reststop for travellers between Vicotoria and Nanaimo since the 1850`s.
Cowichan Bay was almost named "Harrisville" after Samuel Harris came to the area and opened doors for settlers alike looking to prosper from the logging and fishing industries which still boom today.
Sam built his home in Cowichan Bay around 1859. He had a hotel, bar, small dock and a jail. He dispensed liquor, groceries and made himself the first and only town constable! BUT stories tell that he was known to be found on both sides of his jail bars. He called this place the John Bull Inn.
Thanks to Sam - boats carrying settlers were able to come to the area. These settlers spread out from Cowichan Bay moving to other areas of the Valley and make up the folks you meet around here today.
The building you see today was built in 1973 and the pub was called the Black Douglas. It was later re-named the Wind Jammer and in 2002, it became known as The Bay Pub when the current owners took possession.
Now, it's the place you call yours.
